Overview
Offered as an advanced nursing course after the completion of Nurse Aide, students will have master the skills needed to perform electrocardiograms (ECGs); execute basic medical, lab, and exam procedures; draw blood; and provide basic patient/client care. In addition, students will understand basic pharmacology, facilitate client self-administration or assist with medication administration, follow proper procedures for preparing, administering, and maintaining medications, and follow appropriate procedures for documentation.
Course Content
· Demonstrate medical procedures with patient care and comfort measures
· Assist in preventing medical complications
· Understand the role of the electrocardiogram (ECG)
· Understand phlebotomy and related procedures
· Understand pharmacology basics
· Understand how to administer prepared medications and provide proper documentation
· Understand pain management and issues of opioid addiction
· Understand legal and ethical issues of medical treatment and medication administration
